From our very childhood we have come across the word 'robot', be from the eminent Victoria 'Vicki' (famous as Karishma in India through a popular show) a humanoid robot of 'small wonder' American science fiction to the world of animations. Even androids are humanoid robots built to aesthetically resemble humans. We have seen robots doing varieties of jobs and we often wished we could own a robot to make our life easier and adventurous. A common question struck us what exactly a robot is?

A robot is a virtual artificial agent, an electromagnetic machine which is guided by a computer program. Its appearance can be like a simple machine to humanoid. It can be designed autonomous or semi-autonomous .Since last two decades scientists have started designing humanoids that resembles human beings like they have limbs, sensors (sense organs), actuators (muscles) which contributes to bio-inspired robotics, a branch is developed from taking inspiration from nature and create a mechanism which represents the simpler and more efficient the biological system that nature already constitutes, such robots are multi-functional.

Robot - An Humanoid or What

Robots have several applications in our lives; from factories to astronomy we use them for getting a better output in our work. There are humanoids which do give emotional company to human beings, such robots using their ''endocrine-type multi-layer neural network '' through the sensors and program incorporated and behaves accordingly as per the moods, one such popular robot is ' Pepper' designed by Japan that can live with human beings. Even in medical sciences, now 'robotic-assisted surgery' is much more used because of its advantages. In a robotic assisted surgery, the entire surgery is carried out by robotic arms (like a surgeon's arm) and its small and sharp end- effectors (equivalent to the instruments) which are directed by the doctor through tele-manipulator or computer control. One of the rarest advantage of using the computerized method is that the surgeon does not have to be present, but can be anywhere in the world, leading to the possibility for remote surgery. Due to robotic use, the surgery is done with precision, miniaturization, smaller incisions; decreased blood loss, less pain, and quicker healing time.

Although the use of robots especially humanoids has always been a major subject in arguments raised over ethical and humanitarian grounds but its applications are endless. Like recently, in South Korea a team of robotics was inspired by Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, caused by the deadly 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan and they designed humanoid that can aid emergency responders in disaster recovery efforts by going to places that are unsafe to humans within in a very short duration of time. A life comes from nature, and that is all science about exploring the biomedical and reproducing sets of theories and marching towards a constructive advancement. If the inventions do not meddle with the sustainability of our entire globe then we can live in a much elaborated generation.
