The VL6180X Proximity Sensor Module One-Dimensional Gesture Control I2C Interface is a high-performance Time-of-Flight (ToF) ranging sensor that combines proximity detection and one-dimensional gesture sensing in a compact and easy-to-use format. Designed by STMicroelectronics, the VL6180X uses laser-based ranging technology to deliver precise distance measurements regardless of the target color or reflectivity.
With a built-in I2C interface and onboard voltage regulator, the module is compatible with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32, and other microcontroller platforms. It is ideal for gesture-based input, obstacle detection, automatic screen wake-up, robotics, and smart lighting projects.
The VL6180X measures the time it takes for emitted infrared light to reflect back from an object, offering accurate proximity readings up to 100mm with minimal ambient light interference.
Specifications:
- Sensor IC: VL6180X by STMicroelectronics
- Interface: I2C (with configurable address)
- Operating Voltage: 2.8V to 5V (with onboard regulator)
- Measurement Range: 0mm to 100mm (proximity sensing)
- Technology: Time-of-Flight (laser-based)
- Gesture Detection: One-dimensional hand movement
- Integrated Ambient Light Sensor (ALS)
- Compact breakout board with mounting holes
- Compatible with Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, ESP8266, etc.
Pinouts:
- Vin: Power input pin. Voltage input range 3-5V
- 2v8: Output port, output 2.8V voltage, the 2.8V output voltage generated by the on-board voltage regulator processing VIN input voltage, convenient to expand and use
- GND: power ground
- SCL: I2C clock pin, connected to the master SCL
- SDA: I2C data pin, connected to the master SDA
- GPIO: The pin used by the sensor to indicate that the data is ready. Note that the output of this pin is 0-2.8V high and low. This pin may not be applied to boards such as Arduino (these boards are 3.3 or 5V high). ), generally not used, to apply level conversion
- SHDN: The shutdown pin of the sensor. By default it is pulled high. There is a level shifting diode so you can use 3-5V logic on this pin. When the pin is pulled low, the sensor enters the shutdown mode.
